BORGO di PIANTALUCCI, a small hamlet near Spoleto, Umbria, Italy

Just 15 minutes from the centre of the town of Spoleto in Umbria, there is a small mountain hamlet at 710 metres above sea level with a magnificent view of the city of Spoleto in the valley. The area, rich in the famous and prized Umbrian black truffle that grows in symbiosis with the oaks in the forest, is of rare scenic beauty. At the end of the 1970s, the hamlet suffered the same fate as many other similar Umbrian hamlets, being completely abandoned, until in 1991 Adriana Benedetti, a real estate broker specialising in the sale of prestigious and historic properties, and passionate about the restoration of rural houses, bought what was then the only property actually for sale, consisting of the hamlet’s old warehouses and barn.

In the following years, what had initially been a real estate investment turned into a real passion and a more articulated project, aimed at recovering the entire hamlet and creating areas of common use for the various owners, such as a swimming pool and a common car park.

The hamlet includes 6 properties, each independent with land and terraces and fantastic views of the Spoleto valley and the surrounding woods. It is very private and incredibly quiet and unspoiled, a small natural oasis; only 15 minutes from the centre of Spoleto it is possible to feel away from it all in a private paradise of birdsong where the stars do not compete with man made lighting and the sense of peace and tranquillity is restorative.

All the properties in the hamlet have been restored by a couple of renowned local architects who combine old and new with style – and specialize in the restoration of old houses, acting as project managers for the whole project, from start to finish; they speak fluent English and French, as well as Italian.
